Bee Tour
Meet the Melipona Bees
The history of stingless bee honey cultivation among the Maya dates back to prehistoric America and its presence persists in the 21st century.
Meliponas beecheii bees are gentle and generous, stingless, and native to the Mayan culture. Their honey is considered the most nutritious, and for two consecutive years, Valladolid has been recognized as the "Honey Capital of the World."
Meliponiculture is part of the subsistence mechanisms of some indigenous communities.
Currently, melipona bees are considered an endangered species.
At Zentik Project, we are committed to rescuing, preserving, and raising awareness about this ancient tradition and the consumption of melipona honey.
Curiosities of the
Melipona bee
Melipona honey contains excellent properties for multiple conditions and helps the immune system fight bacteria.
There is only one entrance to the hive so the guard bee can monitor it. Melipona beecheii has no stinger and uses biting attacks with acidic and resinous substances to defend themselves.
