Experiences and Workshops

At Zentik Project we offer our guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the art world and learn about the traditional cardboard technique for creating alebrijes and masks.

In these 2 Workshops of 8 and 4 hours you will discover:

• The story of the creator of the alebrijes
• The history of traditions where the use of ritual masks is maintained
• Creation of a piece
• You will paint your own piece
• You will know an authentic gallery of masks and alebrijes.  

To attend, you must book and pay for the workshop of your choice at the reception of the Zentik hotel.

We are a family of plastic artists, self-taught with more than 20 years of experience, we have a project that we name "IK-Kan", in which we are dedicated to the rescue and promotion of Mexican folk art, since this is a wonderful living example of the millenary culture of our town and sample of the great creative tradition of Mexico. In our work the history, art, colors, magic and mysticism of our lands are combined, since we make masks, skulls, alebrijes and monumental alebrijes with the original technique of cardboard, with the aim of keeping the tradition alive of our grandparents, share it with the world and give this legacy the decent place it deserves.

You will have the opportunity to visit our house-gallery-workshop, learn about our artistic work and experience the traditional technique of cardboard through the elaboration of a piece of Mexican folk art that can be a mask, an alebrije or a catrina.

You will prepare a piece step by step with the accompaniment of one of us. The experience will be divided into two stages: the first will be the molding of the piece and the second where you can decorate it to your liking with our guide. In addition, we will tell you the history of traditions where the use of ritual masks is maintained, about the wonderful feast of the day of the dead and their meaning and the amazing way in which the alebrijes came alive in our tradition.

We will carry out the activity in a house-gallery-workshop. Located in the historic center of the city of Valladolid Yucatan. In this place you can also know the different activities that our fellow artists perform, their works and enjoy the unique atmosphere in this city of this space of artistic creation.
